A commercial motorcyclist, popularly called
okada, Adetola Kalejaiye, has been arrested for
allegedly dispossessing his passenger of their
valuables.
He was arraigned before an Ikeja magistrate’s
court for stealing.
Kalejaiye, 28, a resident of No. 1, Yusuf Oyero
St., Alapere in Ketu, Lagos,was arraigned
before Magistrate Margaret Dan-Oni.
He was standing trial on a two-count charge of
stealing and conspiracy.
The prosecutor, Inspector Edet Okoi, said the
defendant and others still at large,
dispossessed the complainant, Miss Adedayo
Adegbaiye, of a blackberry phone valued at
N45, 000 and N58, 000.
Okoi said the defendant committed the
offences about 7.30 p.m. on June 30.
“Adegbaiye mounted the motorcycle from Ketu
Bus Stop to Alapere, but on the way, the
accused removed the plug of the motorcycle.
“The motorcycle came to a halt and in the
process, the accused while pretending to repair
it dispossessed the woman of her valuables
and zoomed off,” Okoi told the court.
The offences, he noted, contravened Sections
285 and 409 of the Criminal Law of Lagos
State, 2011.
The accused pleaded innocence of the offences.
The defendant said he was not guilty when the
charges were read to him.
In her ruling, the Magistrate Dan-Oni granted
him bail for N50, 000 with one surety of the
same amount.
The case was adjourned to November 6, this
year for trial.
